A certified wildlife habitat is a property that has been designed and maintained to provide essential elements for wildlife to thrive. To become certified, a property must provide food, water, shelter, and places to raise young for wildlife. Sustainable gardening practices are also required. Becoming certified by the National Wildlife Federation involves completing an application and paying a fee. Once certified, the property owner can display a sign indicating their property is a certified wildlife habitat. Creating a certified wildlife habitat benefits the environment by preserving biodiversity and creating a healthier ecosystem.
